Perhaps: You are asking about thalassemia, inherited defects in hemoglobin synthesis. Some carriers are anemic and therefore could have symptoms. Your child inherited the thalassemia gene from either you or your partner/spouse. Check with your family to find if other carriers tend to be anemic; most will not be.
