Age 67. bp around 160-170/62 average. pulse at rest constant low 50s. is safe to take beta blockers?

Probably not: You should be very cautious as beta-blockers slow the heart rate. You don't have much room to move about in.

Not ideal: Beta blockers may not be ideal for you. Before starting on BP meds, try improving diet and try magnesium which many people are deficient in. Cut back on caffeine, stop smoking, drink lots of water, and get good sleep. Eat more organic vegetables.

Probably not: Your pulse is already low -- taking beta blocker will lower it further and that is not a correct choice of meds !
