Yes.: We know the most about brca mutations, which are associated with breast and ovarian cancer. Children of an affected parent have a 50:50 chance of inheriting this mutation, regardless of their sex, although they may not necessarily get breast or ovarian cancer. These mutations can be detected by a simple blood test, although i advise my patients to first meet with a genetic counselor.
