Yes: A pelvic exam to check the uterus and ovaries can be done at any time, including during heavy bleeding. If the pelvic exam is being done to check for cervical cancer or pre-cancer with a pap smear, it is best to do it when bleeding is minimal. Often routine pap smears can be done only every 2 to 3 years, but the annual exam includes much more preventative care than just the pap smear.
