Nerve problem: You failed to mention which toe. If it is 3rd or 4th toe this is commonly a morton's neuroma, if the great toe one must be cautious as it may be a problem emanating from the lower back. Tight shoes can cause nerve problems to toes as well, and it can also be a sign of a systemic disease like diabetes, so that must be kept in mind as well.
