Near the kneecap: The medial patellofemoral ligament is on the inside (medial) part of the patella (kneecap). It helps stabilize the patella as the knee bends. If damaged, subluxation ( abnormal movement) of the patella can cause pain. It can be repaired by grafting tissue to replace the damaged ligament.
