Serious illness: Eczema herpeticum is a rare but severe disseminated infection that generally occurs at sites of skin damage produced by eczema or other rashes. It is most commonly caused by herpes simplex virus, but it may also be caused by other viruses. It causes serious illness, and can be life threatening in babies and old/debilitated people.
