Not sure: Hiatal hernia's typically do not cause muscle soreness. Often it does not cause any symptoms at all, but if it does, usually it is similar to acid reflux like symptoms. These symptoms can be prevented by avoiding large or heavy meals, staying upright after eating, loosing weight if this is needed, and stopping smoking. Sometimes people need to use acid lower medications too.

Anything: The presence of a hiatal hernia does not preclude you from taking any type of pain medication. Mitigating factors would be peptic ulcer disease, allergies, and previous medication tolerance.
