Shortly after: Usually a dentist will recommend keeping pressure on the extraction site for 30 minutes after an extraction. You should be able to see a blood clot forming within that time.

Few hours: Blood clot forms fairly quickly after tooth removal, typically a couple hours after extraction. It can be lost quickly so don't rinse vigorously, brush the area or eat on the side for 24 hours.
