Over the counter med: At home, take Ibuprofen (often it is safe to take up to 800mg every 6 to 8 hours. Consult with your pharmacist to make sure that is safe for you. A cold pack to the affected area can also help. Sometimes keeping your head more upright so that the blood flow doesn't increase a pounding sensation can help. Keep your nutrition up- drink a lot of water, drink smoothies or similar. See your dentist now.

Definitive care: Please see your local dentist. If you have dental pain the only way to definitively resolve it is to have your infected tooth undergo root canal treatment or have the tooth extracted. Pain medications will not resolve the problem only prolong the infection..Take care.

Upgrade!: Obviously if you are in pain, it will be high on your priority list to get it gone and move on. One of the wisest decisions you can make (if you haven't already), is to regularly visit your provider to prevent surprises like you are currently experiencing. There is really no good time for an emergency, and the majority of them are avoidable :-).

Pain is a good!: Especially with teeth but true with the whole body in general. Pain is a good indicator something is wrong. You put you hand in a fire, it hurts, you pull it out, further damage averted! your tooth is no different, pain usually means you have issues that needs attention and should not be ignored. Please find a dentist to help you, the pain will likely get worse till you do.

Get to source: Need to see a dentist and determine the source of your dental pain. Does not help to medicate, etc, if you are treating symptoms and not the cause.
