Can anyone explain mri / nmr history?

Been around a while: Well NMR or nuclear magnetic resonance has been around in the chemical industry since at least late 70's. Chemicals in a magnetic field cause their protons and electrons to line up and that can be sensed and plotted. That significantly predated the use of MRI in medical imaging.

MRI was invented: By several teams of docs. One doctor invented a very slow method - which took 24 hours to image a glass of water. The other team in 1981 which received the nobel prize was headed by dr. Lauterbur and he used something called fourier transformation which mathematically speeds up the reconstruction of the image to make an image in minute instead of hours. We now can imaging in seconds.
