Essential to life: We do not know exactly how sleep works. It is obvious, however, that it has something to do with energy conservation. It has to be important because you spend roughly one third of your life in bed. Sleep deprivation is a big issue in the U.S. Because our lives are so darned unnatural and we try to burn the candle at both ends.
