Can hardening of the breast and extreme pain can be cancer?

Maybe: If you are breast feeding or just had a baby that will resolve. If your breasts become engorged prior to your period that will also resolve. Having extreme breast pain may mean extreme anxiety. Fibrocystic disease is uncomfortable not painful. You may also be in early pregnancy and need to find out. Otherwise mammogram and getting checked by your doctor is in order.
