YES: Once the fusion becomes solid, exercises to strengthen the core muscles is a must. The stronger your core muscles the less chance for pain from muscle fatigue.

Varies: It varies somewhat. We do use therapists in the hospital to train people in how they should move and in their gait. Once they get home, our first priority is really to make sure the fusion heals over an 8-12 weeks, and so therapy is usually not used then. Once they heal, depending on how they do, we let them resume activities as tolerated without therapy. If slow progress, we use pt. Thanks.
