My dad has a 3" renal cell tumor on the tail of his pancreas and 2" on the head. surgery not option. how much time typically does he have?

Depends,: Metastatic renal cell is difficult to manage and depending on the response to treatment the survival is quite variable(months-yrs). If surgery is not an option, radiosurgery may be a good feasible way to address the 2 lesions you mentioned. If only 2 areas of active disease, he may be best served with a locally aggressive treatment like radiosurgery. There is also promising chemotherapy agents.

Chemo?: It depends on whether he is a candidate for chemotherapy, and if he responds to chemotherapy. Make sure your surgeon has explained why the pancreas metastases are not surgically removable-- some patients do really well with this type of operation if properly selected.
