Consult: You have provided little information about what other symptoms you may have had, why antibiotics were prescribed, and which type of white cell was elevated. As a lab physician I am always telling colleagues to look at the person, not the numbers; anything from a myelodysplastic syndrome to a perinephric abscess to a subtle osteomyelitis are possibilities & there are many more.
