Can a general surgeon perform a lap ban surgery or does it have to be a gastroenterology dr?

Bariatric surgery: There is a specialty of medine for this--bariatric surgery. Gastroenterologists generally don't do surgery-mostly endoscopic procedures and biopsies etc..Bariatric surgeons are trained to do just these bypass procedures. I advise consult your doc for an evaluation and possible referal to a bariatric surgeon--and lung/heart/psychiatry doc as part of the "requirement" for these surgeries. Good luck.
