Doctor can examine: Prevent dryness (shouldn't wash hair too often). A primary care doctor or a dermatologist can look for psoriasis, eczema, or fungal infections on the scalp. If checking for fungal infections, the dermatologist may take hair samples to culture. Doctors may also try cortisone or triamcinolone sprays to counteract dryness. Some patients put olive oil on the scalp for a while, before showering.
