Next step : Failure to thrive is a complicated neuro-psycho-somatic condition that can be related to problems in the structure of the brain- (tumor, infection, or congenital pathology.) the visual exam may have been normal or showed swelling of the optic nerve. He may have done the MRI to rule out structural brain problems even based on a normal eye exam, or, if swelling was seen, to find out why.
