Liver failure: If your husband has liver cirrhosis and is sleeping a lot in the day, he could be building up toxic ammonia levels because his liver cannot process these effectively. This could produce the mental status changes you're seeing. Fluid in his lungs may relate to liver failure also. Please get your husband to his physician for a follow-up -- there are ways to at least reduce the ammonia levels.
