If i have marfan's syndrome, can i no longer do hardcore exercise?

No hardcore exercise: Marfan syndrome persons should avoid contact sports. If symptoms are on the moderate to severe side, they can participate in non-contact, non-strenguous activities such as golf, bowling, walking, yoga, or Tai-Chi. If mild to moderate in severity, they can try non-contact, moderately strenguous activities such as biking or swimming. The National Marfan Foundation website is helpful.

Consult w your docto: If you have Marfan changes in your aorta with enlargement and thoracic article anneurysm, then strenuous exercise should be avoided (as should pregnancy), due to an increased rate of aortic dissection.

Need echocardiograp: You must get echocardiography immediately. If you have Marfan, most untreated die in their 40's from aortic dissection. A normal lifespan is achieved with repair--but more difficult if the aortic outlet is already too wide. If you have a normal width aortic outflow, you do not have Marfan, nor risk of dissection. People with Marfan are at high risk of retinal detachment from eye trauma.
