Recovery time: 4-6 weeks usually but best to ask your surgeon the expected time of recovery since he or she will be doing the surgery.

Sagittal split: Recovery after a routine sagittal split osteotomy of the mandible is fairly predictable. Most people are out of work for 2-3 weeks, on a liquid diet for the first week, then a soft diet for another month or so. Teeth should not be wired together. Often done on an outpatient basis, going home the same day, some folks stay overnight in the hospital. Vacation plans can be made as soon as 3 or 4 weeks.
