Usually by an : Imaging study like an x-ray. However, they heal in their fractured position and a lot go undiagnosed so an MRI can help distinguish an acute fracture from a chronic one..

Imaging: X-rays, ct, MRI or bone scan. All are imaging modalities that can assist with the diagnosis of a spine fracture.
