Yes and no.: It is unusual for an 18-year-old to have a compression spinal fracture. Im an 18-year-old one would expect either a traumatic reason or an underlying pathological condition. A compression fracture without incident, usually seen in a more elderly population with osteoporosis for example as a cause. See your orthopedic spinal specialist for an evaluation.

Yes: Technically, a compression fracure is simply a fracture of the anterior column of the spine. What would be very unlikely, however, would be for an 18 year old to have an osteoporotic compression fracture, which is the most common cause of compression fractures in patients over 50. If she does have a compression fracture after minor trauma, other potential causes should be sought. Thank you.
