No: In most cases, no. Conservative measures usually work and a normal active life is possible.

Yes: He should see a pediatric spine surgeon. He may benefit from wearing a brace and limited physical activity until the spondylolysis heals. If this does not heal and progresses or becomes very painful he may need a spinal fusion.
