If you choose : To have general anesthesia, a tube will most likely be used as a conduit for ventilation. Some tubes pass through the vocal cords, others do not. Discuss what is most appropriate for you with your anesthesiologist.

Not necessarily: You can have either local anesthesia with sedation or a single shot regional block anesthesia, usually axillary nerve block.
