Where to start?: The list of things that can cause chest pain is long enough to fill several text books. Start with the organs in the chest, esophagus, heart, ribs, muscles, lining of the lung, airways (notice i don't mention lungs...No pain nerves in the lungs, just on the lining). Inflammation in any of these can cause pain that is hard to distinguish from others. Heart disease is always a concern.

Many things: Could be a problem with skin, nerves, muscle, shoulder, lung, heart, or stomach. See your doctor for a more thorough history, physical exam and further evaluation.
