Why should one elevate feet after an injury?

To reduce: Or eliminate swelling. Allowing feet to remain dependent allows for gravity to pull blood in the feet.

BROKEN BLOOD VESSELS: When you have an injury, small blood vessels break, leaking extra fluid into the area. Also, with this breakage, blood vessels cannot remove the extra fluid as well as before the injury. Elevation helps drain the fluid out of the area. Also, this extra fluid can press on small nerves, causing pain. Over time, the vessels repair themselves. Sincerely, Dr. Latva
