How long does it take for prozac (fluoxetine) to leave the body?

Tapering Prozac (fluoxetine).: Please do not stop your antidepressant without checking with the prescribing physician. Many conditions Prozac (fluoxetine) is used to treat tend to recur, especially if the medication i'd stopped too quickly. A good estimate is it takes a week for half of Prozac (fluoxetine) and its metabolites to clear from your system, and a month to fully clear.

About a week: There's 2 related questions here. It takes about a week for fluoxetine (prozac) to leave the body after dosing has stopped. This is longer than other antidepressants. But all antidepressants, including prozac, continue to have an effect on mood for 2-3 weeks after they're stopped. The brain effect persists a couple weeks even after the drug is gone.
