Stress/worries: Recurrent nightmares reflect stress/worries. Review your life, list your stressors, & seek solutions. Use strategies including talking with a trusted person, develop self calming skills, and eliminate unnecessary stresses. Review your internal dialogue as what we tell ourselves affects our stress/dreams. Develop a positive internal dialogue. Rewrite nightmares with positive ending-take charge.

If this is based on : a bad experience, you may need therapy. EMDR helps target nightmares caused by bad experiences, car accidents, assault, rape, child abuse, any abuse. Discuss with your therapist if the dream is warning you about someone or something that is realistic disguised as a nightmare. Consider all options.

No More Nightmares: Dreams with unusual content are not uncommon after disturbing or stressful events. The issue is not the dream content but rather the problem of being woken up by the dream. If you sleep peacefully through your dreams you won't remember or be disturbed by the content of your dreams. Try Planned Dream Intervention from my No More Nightmares class. Most people are no longer woken up after the class.
