Tinea versicolor: It sounds like tinea versicolor, a harmless fungus we all have on our body. It grows more readily ins ome people procucing slightly scaley white or tan spots. The fungus produces azeleic acid which causes the light spots which are more evident with tan skin. Your doctor can take a simple skin scraping to make the diagnosis. Topical and oral treatments are available. I hope this helps.
