Same as the old kind: Lowering uric acid levels. There are some new medicines to assist but the goal of treatment is the same.

Lower uric acid: Acute gout can be treated with medications to relieve the inflammation. However, recurrent gout requires the use of a long term rx to lower the uric acid level in the blood. High uric acid is the main reason gout attacks occur.
