See details: Uloric is the latest medication for gout prevention but is not for the treatment of acute attacks. However, Allopurinol is the drug of choice for prevention. Both are just as effective but uloric costs hundreds of dollars more a year. Uloric is prescribed only when Allopurinol is not tolerated or is not effective enough.

Treatments: Are generally the same as the old ones. There are a cople of new medications like Krystexxa (pegloticase) but, that is only for cases of chronic refractory gout. For the most part the medications have been the same, i.E allopurinol, probenecid, Colcrys etc...
