Crown: Preop impressions are taken. You are given anesthetic, the tooth is reduced to make room for the crown, an impression is taken, a temporary crown is made from the preop impression and cemented temporarily and generally you return in two weeks to have the real crown cemented.

Two appointments: The tooth in question is reduced on all sides by a minimum of 1 1/2 mm to allow room for the materials of the crown. An impression of the tooth is made for a model the laboratory uses to make the crown. A temporary crown is placed in between appointments, and then the permanent crown is placed.
