Yoga: Yoga increases strength, increases stability, and can help relieve pressure from compressed nerves. Start lightly, progress as tolerated, and you could be amazed at how it can help pains like sciatica go away.

Careful exercise: Start by avoiding prolonged positioning & any repetitive twist or bend maneuvers. If you had physical therapy, resume those exercises. Use of otc medication will help control symptoms. Cardiovascular workouts may help except for rowing & maybe running. If you did not have physical therapy, you may want to get a session to learn exercises. Weight control & not smoking are key.

Core Exercises: Typically core strengthening exercises are the best to help relieve pressure and forces in the spine. I would try and google some or look them up on youtube to see descriptions. If you can do them yourself, wonderful otherwise ask your doctor to get a referral to a good physical therapist for further assistance.
