Minimally: The cleaner and healthier the gums around the teeth, the less pain. Think of how uncomfortable it would be to put a shoe on over a swollen foot. Keep gums healthy during ortho rx to minimize pain.

Normally not: Usually just an adjustment period getting used to the tightness of the braces on the teeth and the minimal tooth movement that occurs initially. Good oral hygiene is super important.

Can Be: They will usually be "very sore" for the initial couple months, also when the wires are changed, or an appliance is tightened. Good luck, keep them clean and it will all be worth it in the end!
