Hello doctor, i just had my sgpt (alt) test results the test result is 48 u/i whereas the reference range is flaged 0-40. should i be concerned?

Find the cause: Elevated SGPT means your liver cells are letting out a bit more of their contents into the bloodstream than most folks. It's very common and can result from boozing, being sedentary, running a marathon, taking any of a host of meds, hemochromatosis, chronic hepatitis b or c, wilson's, autoimmune hepatitis... Long list. Your phyiscian knows the workup. Good luck.

No: A lab number like that is like going 56 mph in a 55 mph speed zone. A cop usually would not pull you over. I would just repeat the test. There is the concept of lab error. Literally outside the normal range by one unit is not that concerning. However if you feel strongly, ask your doctor to repeat the test.
