A member asked:

Shooting or burning sensation in my sinus from inhaling water. what's that?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hypotonic fluid: The human body fluids all have a certain amount of salt. The fluids in the nose and sinuses have a similar concentration of salt. When plain water goes in the nose it "shocks" the tissues leading to inflammation and discomfort. This does not happen with "saline spray" which contains the ideal amount of salt.
