Get interested: The most common cause for an attention disorder is lack of interest. In order to focus on a topic or task you need to get really interested in it. For some people once they become really interested in a certain topic or task, it can be very difficult to even attend to anything else. This can be both good and bad.

Executive management: People with adhd have problems with executive cortical management. As a consequence they mismanage attention either too little or too much. Too much is hyperfocus, too little management is distractibility. This is a neurobiological problem, not an environmental or behavioral problem. Hyperfocus happens when there is excessive interest & inability to transition to another activity.
