Regular dental care: Best way is preventative care. Catching early problems before feeling any symptoms is best. Once you are in this situation, over the counter meds like advil, tylenol, (acetaminophen) Aleve or aspirin.

Office visit: Alternate Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen every 3 hours not exceeding daily maximums for either to start. Almost all dental pain that isn't transient will require evaluation and diagnosis by a dentist to truly remedy the underlying cause of the pain. If there's infection, it is essential to get treatment. Think of dental pain as a signal to seek diagnosis, not something to outlast.
