Depends on problem: 3 categories of potential health issues from thyroid nodules: a) large size affecting swallowing, breathing, voice ; b) over active production of thyroid hormone (hyperthyroid) ; and c) ~5% of nodules are cancer. Thyroid function tests (tsh, freet4) can assess for over-functioning. Depending on size and ultrasound features of nodule, it may require fine needle biopsy and/or surgery. See specialist.
