Doctor can evaluate: With symptoms of "terrible pain", a doctor should evaluate. It may be nerve pain from nerves coming out of the spine. It may be bone pain from the ribs or the spine. There could be a problem inside the lung or the pleura, which is the lining of the lung. If unable to reach one's regular doctor, one can go to the E.R. Because pains in the chest area might be heart attack symptoms.
