A member asked:

Can excessive dopamine use cause a significant decrease in a person's normal inhibitions to abnormal behaviors and an increased level of risk taking?

See below: Do you mean like in drugs for parkinsons? Excessive use usually makes you confused and loopy but everybody reacts individually and one may lose inhibitions, sometimes even in the context of suicidal ideation. Follow your doctor's advice strictly and immediately share with him/her if you have any unusual side effects.

What does use mean?: The brain makes all of its DA. DA made outside the brain doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier so doesn't get into the brain. DOPA does cross the blood-brain barrier but ingested DOPA causes intractable nausea & vomiting if not given with carbidopa. Then there are dopamine agonists. Are you referring to those?
