Anti-thyrotropin: Autoimmune diseases are often caused by antibodies that bind to a self component. Binding to a receptor for a hormone could result in inappropriately stimulating that receptor into thinking that it had bound a hormone molecule and this could result in the same effect as if excess hormone was present. Following the antibody level may be helpful in monitoring the activity of the disease.
