Can a child inherit 2 cf gene mutations from a symptomless mother and also have no symptoms?

Yes: There are a number of mutations in the cftr gene on chromosome 7 that can be associated with cf. Even getting more than one from the mother is not associated with disease as long as the cftr gene from the father is normal.

CF: Cystic fibrosis is an inherited genetic disease. One gene with a CF mutation is inherited from each parent. Parents are either carriers or have the disease itself. Since there are many mutations that can cause cf, the clinical symptoms vary considerably. Initially, infants and children may have no symptoms.
