Be assertive: Order exactly what you need and how you want your food. Don't let the waiter/cook add extra fat you don't need or want. Order salad dressing "on the side, " so you are in control of what you consume. Ask what also comes on on the plate, and modify according to your needs. A good way to cut down on portion size is to share an entree, and maybe a salad, with a friend. Drink only water or tea. Good luck!

Careful with alcohol: Try to plan ahead if you know what foods will be offered. Stay away from carbohydrates or small bites, caution alcohol, drink water or tea, avoid desserts, take small portions and eat slow.
