From injury???: You can just leave it alone and sooner or later it will just come off on it's own. A new nail will grow in. If it hurts, have it removed by a podiatrist.

See podiatrist: If it is "dead" as you say from an accumulation of blood under the nail, or perhaps fungus, the podiatrist will be able to remove the nail so that a new healthy nail will have a chance to grow.
