Perhaps, but...: ...It also raises awareness about the disease, provides an opportunity for friends & family to support survivors, raises money to help others, and allows people to memorialize those that may have succumbed to this cancer. I have seen a lot of good that has come from these events but its clearly not for everyone.

Raises Awareness: They are a great way to raise awareness, form support, and to raise money for research. But if they are not your cup of tea, there are other ways to get involved.
