A member asked:

Do first cousins history count when assessing my risk for diseases like ovarian and breast cancer?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Some, because there can be a common genetic issue passed from a grandparent. However, the 1st degree relatives like parents/siblings have more importance since they share more common genetic material. The more genetic material added to the mix from outside the direct family line, the more an outside genetic factor creeps into the process.
