Atlhetes require at their peak performance levels 5-8x the amount of calories that a normal person consumes ie. Well over 10000 calories/day. Nutrition is key to repair muscle tissue, replenish electolytes, heal bone tendon interfaces, as such you are less susceptible to injury. Undernourished athletes do poor.
